Single Author Anthology Submission Guidelines

Be published by WATG Press.

I. Genres Accepted:

We publish stories that evoke emotion, tension, and the uncanny. Genres include:

  • Horror: Stories that unsettle, terrify, or provoke dread—psychological, supernatural, or visceral.

  • Speculative: Imaginative “what if” scenarios that depart from reality, including science fiction, fantasy, dystopia, and alternate history.

  • Surreal: Dreamlike, illogical, or absurd narratives that challenge perception and explore the subconscious.

  • Dark Fantasy, Gothic, Weird Fiction, Magical Realism, Psychological Thriller—and combinations thereof are welcome.

II. Story Length:

  • Micros & Flash Fiction preferred (under 1,000 words).

  • Short stories accepted, ideally around 2,000 words. Longer stories may be rejected.

Total manuscript length: Minimum 12,000 words for flash/short collections; minimum 15,000 words for microfiction collections.

III. Style & Tone:

We embrace all voices and styles—but your stories must provoke emotion. Strong emotions. We are not afraid to feel fear, unease, discomfort, or even disgust. If it doesn’t move the reader, it’s just a report of events.

IV. Requirements:

  • Original work only: No AI-generated content. Plagiarism is your responsibility!

  • Well-written submissions only.

  • Format: .doc, standard font (12 pt), double-spaced. Insert page breaks between stories. No special fonts, bold, or underlines—italics are fine.

V. Submission Process:

  • Returning authors (previously published by WATG Press in an anthology, except Drabble the Dark - Year 202X) may submit full manuscripts via email with the subject line: Single Author Anthology – [Title].

  • New authors or contributors only published in WATG Press magazine or Drabble The Dark Contest must first submit a project summary including:

    • Title of the anthology

    • Genre(s)

    • Theme(s) linking the stories

    • Number of stories

    • Origin of the project

    • Why you are submitting to WATG Press

We encourage you to read the multi-author anthologies already published by WATG Press to better understand the type of anthologies we produce (format, story length, and genres). These titles are available in our Shop, on Amazon, and on other platforms.
