About WATG Press
At WATG Press, we publish stories that linger, unsettle, and refuse to behave. Through our three divisions—WATG Press Editions (books & anthologies), WATG Press Journal (editorial & media), and WATG Press Archives (future retrospectives)—we’re building a home for fiction and nonfiction that explores the dark, the strange, and the deeply human. We are the place for all who Write Against The Grain.
WATG Press was founded and is edited by Dakria, a writer of dark short fiction steeped in myth, madness, and the quiet collapse of the human mind. Her work draws on Norse paganism and neurodivergent perception, weaving psychological horror with dreamlike fantasy. Through WATG Press, she champions misfit voices and stories that dare to disturb.
We publish horror, speculative, and surreal flash and microfiction. Our mission is to spotlight misfit voices and stories that cut deep—writers unafraid to disturb. We host open calls every two months. Subscribe to the Journal to stay informed about new opportunities.
We also publish Writing Against The Grain, a monthly e-Mag where tongues are unbound and quills tell the truth. Open calls run from the 3rd to the 15th of each month.
As we grow, we’re committed to evolving from a volunteer-driven publication into one that compensates its contributors—step by step, anthology by anthology.
